Addison DeHaven is currently the research communications coordinator for South Dakota State University and a 2021 graduate of the School of Education at Iowa State University. Before being hired at South Dakota’s premier university, DeHaven worked as a reporter for his hometown newspaper: The Brookings Register.

At the Register, DeHaven reported on school board, county commission and parks and recreation meetings while also producing feature stories. Highlights include a series on truancy, a series on dyslexia, a lookback at SDSU Football in the 1990s, and coverage of the 2022 legislative session.

Before the Register, DeHaven spent a full-year substituting at a local K-3 elementary school. DeHaven is also a 2019 graduate from Boise State University, where he majored in journalism and mass media studies.

At Boise St., DeHaven captained the cross country team, leading the Broncos to a conference title and a top 10 national ranking in 2018. DeHaven was a two time All-American individually. After transferring to Iowa State for graduate school, DeHaven helped the Cyclones to the 2019 Big 12 XC Title and a podium finish at the NCAA National Championships. In the winter of 2020-21, an injury took DeHaven out of the sport.

Before Boise St., DeHaven attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Outside of work and writing, DeHaven enjoys golf, pickleball, live music and reading. On Saturdays in the fall, he cheers on the Jacks, Badgers and Broncos, and on Sundays, he cheers on the Patriots. Originally from Madison, Wisconsin, DeHaven went to high school in Brookings, graduating in 2014.

DeHaven’s work has appeared in Boise State’s The Arbiter, The Brookings Register, Golf Course Architecture Magazine (online), South Dakota State University and the Mountain West Wire.
